If you want to come to Finland for tourism, think about if you need to get visa or your current passport allows you to travel easily without any restrictions.

If you are a citizen of a visa-free country like Israel, USA, UK, Japan, or a citizen of Ukraine – the owner of a biometric passport with an issue date not earlier than 11.06.2017, you only need a valid passport. In other cases you will also need a visa or residence permit.
In the case, you do not need a visa to visit Finland, you need to have a valid passport or some other travel document accepted by Finnish Government. Pay attention that the document should be valid for at least 90 days after your intended date of departure from the Schengen area.

Besides that, the passport or your current travel document must have been issued no later than 10 years ago.
In addition to that, you need to keep in mind that you can stay in Finland or on the territory of any other Schengen state for 90 days in any 180-day period.

While travelling in Finland do not forget to think about the insurance. The minimum coverage of the policy must be 30,000€ and the insurance must cover expenses arising from a sudden illness and accident (also the patient's repatriation) and repatriation expenses in case of death.

Customs restrictions Finland

1. Alcohol

- Arriving from inside the UE
You can bring in alcohol exempt from tax from the territory of the European Union when you import it for your personal use or as a gift. You must transport your alcoholic beverages personally, and in the same vehicle as the one in which you arrive in Finland.
The are no universal limits that can be provided on quantities of alcohol.
• 110 litres of beer (over 0.5%)
• a total of 90 litres of wine, ciders and long drinks manufactured through fermentation
o red wines, white wines, rosés
o sparkling wines, max. 60 litres
o ciders and long drinks manufactured through fermentation
• 20 litres of intermediary products (max. 22 %)
o for example liquor, vermouth, bitters and sherry
• 10 litres of other alcoholic beverages (over 1.2% and max. 80 %)
o vodka, gin, rum and other spirits
o long drinks made from ethyl alcohol.
You can import products from different categories simultaneously. However, you cannot replace products of various categories with other products. This means you cannot bring more wine even if you bring less beer.
If you bring in alcoholic beverages in quantities that exceed the guidelines, you must be able to credibly prove that the alcohol is meant for your personal use.
- Arriving from outside the UE
You can bring in alcohol exempt from tax from outside the European Union when you import it for your personal use.
You can bring in the following maximum quantities from outside the EU:
• 16 litres of beer (over 0.5%) AND
• 4 litres of still wine (red, white and rosé).

You can also bring the following:
• 1 litre of spirits (over 22 % and at most 80 %) OR
• other alcoholic beverages (at most 22 %) 2 litres
o sparkling wines, long drinks, ciders, liqueurs
o vermouth, bitters, sherry.

You can bring in these products exempt from tax for yourself, for your family or as a gift.

2. Tobacco

- Moving to Finland from another EU country.
You are allowed to import tobacco products from other EU countries to Finland as exempt from tax in the following maximum quantities:
• 200 cigarettes and
• 50 cigars and
• 100 cigarillos and
• 250 grams of roll-your-own tobacco, pipe tobacco or waterpipe tobacco and
• 200 dose units of other tobacco products or 250 grams of other loose tobacco products, such as cigarette sticks or capsules containing tobacco and
• 200 units of ready-rolled and 250 grams of loose herbal products for smoking, such as herbal cigarettes.
-Arriving in Finland from a country outside the EU
• 200 cigarettes or
• 50 cigars or
• 100 cigarillos (max. 3 g/each) or
• 250 grams of roll-your-own tobacco, pipe tobacco or waterpipe tobacco.
You can bring in these products exempt from tax for yourself, for your family or as a gift.

3. Foods

- Bringing foods from the EU
When you want to bring any food products from the EU, there are no almost any restrictions besides pork and wild boar.

- Bringing foods from outside the EU
You cannot bring in fresh plants or plant products to Finland from outside the EU without a phytosanitary certificate. Since it is almost impossible for a private person to get a phytosanitary certificate, it means that in practice fresh fruits, berries and vegetables cannot be brought to Finland from outside the EU.
However, a certificate is not required for bananas, dates, durian, pineapples or coconuts.
You can bring in frozen, dried and preserved products, as well as coffee and tea without a phytosanitary certificate.
Meat, fish and milk
When you arrive in Finland from outside the EU, you are not allowed to bring in any of the following:
• meat
• meat products
• milk
• milk products.
Travellers can bring at most 2 kilograms of infant formula meant for personal use. Infant formula cannot however be ordered on the Internet.

Unrestricted foods
You can bring to Finland
• candy and chocolate
• biscuits, cakes and other bakery products that are not mixed or filled with meat products meat concentrates.

4. Pets

- Visiting from another EU country
There are no specific rules or restrictions about declaring your pet to Customs. Your pet does not need to undergo customs clearance. However, note that Customs can check your pet and its documents.

- Visiting from a non-EU country

2) Once you arrive in the airport of Finland with your pet, please choose the red channel. Present the pet and its documents to the customer.
